Sizzle your senses with these Spicy Shrimp Tacos, featuring cayenne-kissed shrimp enveloped in soft tacos with zesty fresh salsa.

Did you know?

Did you know that the taco, a global sensation, has its roots traced back to the silver mines in Mexico during the 18th century? It's as much a treasure as the minerals they unearthed!

Nestled within the soft embrace of tortillas lies a sizzling story of the ocean's bounty marrying the fiery thrill of cayenne. Our protagonist, the succulent shrimp, bathes in a marinade that sings of spice and everything nice. Each bite is a crescendo of flavors, a harmonious symphony where spice, succulence, and freshness dance jubilantly in the grand fiesta of your mouth. We craft a fresh salsa, plucked from the gardens of nature's abundance, each tomato, onion, and cilantro leaf adds a brushstroke to our edible canvas, culminating in an artful masterpiece. Join me on this culinary journey where every lunch is transformed into a celebration, a spicy fiesta of taste, encapsulating vibrant West African flavors with a global, Latin-inspired twist.

Gather around, fellow flavor-seekers, as we embark on a simple yet exotic adventure, no compass needed, just a hearty appetite and a love for zest. It's not just lunch, it's a culinary escapade, a vivid taste tapestry that beckons from afar, urging you to take another bite, and another, until there is no more but the sweet memory of spice-laden joy.

Ingredients

  • 450g of medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tsp of ground cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp of smoked paprika
  • 2 tbsp of olive oil
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Salt to taste
  • 8 soft tortillas
  • 2 large tomatoes, diced
  • 1 medium red onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup of chopped cilantro
  • 1 small jalapeño, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced

Steps

  1. Marinate the shrimp with cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, olive oil, lime juice, and a pinch of salt. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes.
  2. While the shrimp marinates, combine the tomatoes, red onion, cilantro, jalapeño, and garlic in a bowl to create the fresh salsa. Season with salt to taste.
  3. Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium heat and cook the marinated shrimp for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until opaque and slightly charred.
  4. Warm the tortillas in a dry pan or directly over a gas flame for a few seconds on each side.
  5. Assemble the tacos by placing an equal amount of shrimp in each tortilla, topped with a generous spoonful of the fresh salsa.

Add some extra love

For an even more authentic West African twist, try adding a pinch of ground 'grains of paradise' to the shrimp marinade for a unique peppery flavor.
